"This is going to be fun! I can work without having to watch my back... and you can get on with your kidnapping- and tying- and gagging... hehe..."
―Carol

Carol is a party member in Didnapper and a minor supporting character in Didnapper 2. She's a wandering thief who joins Suki after a chance encounter in Velis Manor.

Appearance[]

Personality[]

Carol is quite a simple character as she herself is the first to admit. She herself remarks in the Private Cell that she's not difficult to read and that Suki already knows her quite well. She is cheery, upbeat and intensely fetishistic, and these are her defining qualities. Her comments in missions are often perverted, much to the exasperation of Athena.

She immensely enjoys both being tied up and tying up others, and is demonstrated to be a masochist; she is one of the few characters who enjoys being slapped in the Private Cell, she has to be warned by other party members not to allow herself to be captured, she suffers from a struggle penalty which prevents progress in escapes if she struggles too much or ineffectually and she even has a passive ability which causes her to regenerate hit points when she is tied up in battle, which can further be improved through interactions with her in the Private Cell.

Carol is displayed to have no moral qualms whatsoever about her Guild membership. If asked about her participation in the guild, she will remark that she enjoys the kidnapping (and being captured) and cites that putting up with Leroy is the only downside of membership.

She is the only character other than Suki who can act as the viewpoint character in the Private Cell and will do this if she defeats Suki in a practice battle or if Suki practices self-bondage.

She is shown to be romantically attracted to Suki, both within the game and in the external AMA, and will comment on this occasionally. If asked about her family, she hints to Suki that she'd like to be more than family to her. In Belbasa Harbor, Athena has to pry Carol away from her in the inn so that Evelyn can get some time to catch up with Suki. In the bad ending, Carol's masochistic tendencies mean that she cannot be coerced directly as punishment is ineffective, so as with Athena, she is kept under control through the threat of Suki being punished in her place.

By the time of Didnapper 2, Carol has become more openly flirtatious and less naive.

Biography[]

Background[]

Carol was born and raised in Madinah Town where she lived with her foster father, who according to her, was neglectful and very into gambling. Eventually, her foster father lost all of his money and their home, which led to Carol deciding to leave to the Haab Desert to make her own fortune as a thief. She would eventually settle down in Velis Town where she would regularly target the upper-class nobles living there including on at least one occasion breaking into Velis Manor to steal their valuables.

Velis Manor[]

Suki meets Carol purely by chance shortly after arriving at Velis Manor. Each initially mistook the other for a guard, but they quickly realized that neither of them were there on "official" business. Suki revealed that she was working as a kidnapper, which piqued Carol's interest, and she suggest that they team up, to which Suki accepted, though she noticed that Carol seemed "a little too interested" in some of the finer points of her kidnapping techniques.

The two proceeded through the Manor, kidnapping the noblewomen requested by the Guild while also robbing the place of any valuables they found along the way. While kidnapping the last noblewoman, the two split up, with Carol remaining in the antechamber to search for more valuables. Unfortunately, Nataleigh, the sadistic housekeeper, entered the antechamber with a guard while Carol was alone. Carol surrendered and was escorted away. Suki defeated the guard, who had remained behind to search the main bedroom, and snuck into Nataleigh's chambers, discovering both Nataleigh and a bound and gagged Carol. She rescued Carol, and a fight broke out with Carol and Suki victorious. They then took Nataleigh back with them to Leroy, who was less than impressed with the idea of Suki bringing Carol back as a partner, though eventually relented.

Aurealis Academy[]

Carol was recruited into the Guild on probation and accompanied Suki to Aurealis Academy. There she helped Suki as a combatant, but during the mission it was made even more obvious that she was very knowledgeable about BDSM and enjoyed bondage as well as her preference towards women. Suki quickly realizes this and begins to fear that Carol might deliberately allow herself to be captured by the Seeker Vines in the second-year garden.

Haab Desert[]

If Carol accompanies Suki to Madinah Town, she remarks very negatively on the Sandstorm Guild operative, Gheb, at the beginning of the mission. Upon finding their assigned contact absent at her home, and discovering that she had been arrested, Caron accompanied Suki into the secret passage leading to the prison. Upon entering, Carol informed Suki that Madinah was her hometown and that she knew her way around the prison well, suggesting that she go on alone to free Kirya. Once this was done, and Kirya had returned to her home, Carol waited behind as Suki was sent out to capture the last archeologist needed by the Sandstorm Guild.

After the guild are able to coerce the information they needed out of the archeologist, Suki and Carol were then tasked with the job of capturing the remaining three archeologists at the treasure site. With this accomplished, the Sandstorm Guild were free to seek out the treasure, though they were ultimately disappointed.

Ghiaccio Village[]

If taken to Ghiaccio, Carol criticizes the coach driver's cowardice at the beginning of the mission. After the three female guards blocking the way were subdued, Carol commenting that she had forgotten her lock picks, reentered the outpost and left Suki alone. If Suki submits to the mercenary that appears and was chloroformed, Carol will be present at Claude's when she wakes up and Claude comments that Suki was very fortunate to have Carol looking out for her.

Carol waits outside when Suki enters the Manor to pose as a maid, though she requests that Suki bring the outfit back for roleplay reasons. They meet up again at Claude's once Athena has been rescued. Carol goes on to lampshade her optional status in the mission after the garrison had been overthrown, as Claude credits both Suki and Athena for their actions but not her.

Florian[]

As Suki had to go to Port Ismel alone, Carol is forced to remain behind in the Lair. She rejoins Suki for the trip to Florian, though in both Jormunga Jungle and Florian itself, she mostly serves as an additional combatant who annoys Athena. During these two missions, Carol accompanies Suki constantly and she is shown to be politically unaware, as she failed to realize that Suki's true name is the same as the missing Princess's implying her connection to the throne.

Belbasa Harbour[]

During their stay overnight at the Belbasa Harbour whilst on their way to the Dark Hills, Suki and Evelyn are kidnapped and Carol is awoken by a magical pulse. She wakes Athena up and the two proceed to search the area discovering that the entire region has been placed under a mind-controlling spell. They follow the villagers to the source of the magic, encountering an unsuspecting Alyssa who agrees to help save their friends not realizing that the people she was helping were friends of Suki. Reaching the source, they see the culprit is Elda whom Alyssa confronts though she is quickly defeated. Suki and Evelyn were freed and the four of them are able to defeat Elda.

The Dark Hills and Aftermath[]

Carol joins Suki and the other party members in their infiltration of the Kingdom fortress in the Dark Hills. Her loud mouth in the tavern where the party discusses their strategy threatens to rumble the attempt, but the eavesdropper, Ayano, was friendly and offers to assist. With or without Ayano's assistance, the group fights or sneaks their way through the surrounding hills and the exterior of the fortress, up through the more lavish interior and to the top of the tower, where the final antagonist was defeated.

Sometime after Suki and Cherisa made their peace, She, Suki, Evelyn and Athena left for parts unknown together as friends.

For unknown reasons, the group separated after some time with Carol and Evelyn ending up in the Iidran Empire, situated in a Far Away Land. Due to the tensions in the region between Magic users and normal people, she decided to become the eyes and ears of Evelyn who was forced to keep a low profile to avoid possible persecution.

Carol in Didnapper 2

Carol, alongside Evelyn, were present at Malutina's anti-Aion riot led by Zhara and her Crimson Scar pirate crew. While Carol infiltrated the Crimson Scar as their newest member, Evelyn attempted to help Aions and their families escape the town.

When Seles, Aden, Eileen and Kaie arrive at Malutina, she's the one that ties them up and brings them to Zhara who orders them to be tied with Chroma-resistant ropes to poles to be humiliated by the rioters. At night, Carol approached Seles to tell her about the weakness of the ropes, with this information, Seles freed herself and the others. However, due to bad timing, Carol was forced to pretend they were escaping to keep her cover, leading to Seles and her friends to be re-captured. After finally escaping the next day, Seles and her friends reunite with Carol and meet Evelyn who informs them of Zhara's plans and her possible motivations. While making plans to defeat Zhara, Evelyn and Carol propose using a hidden door to enter the manor Zhara was using as her headquarters. After Zhara escapes the town when the rioters turned against her, Evelyn and Carol have a final talk with Seles and her friends, deciding to stay in the town to help while Seles and her friends return to Alverona.

After the Mastermind's defeat, Seles and her friends visited Evelyn in Malutina. After the greetings, Evelyn told them that Carol had gone to Alverona's library and hadn't comeback and asked them to bring her back. Upon arriving at Alverona, Seles and company infiltrated the library to find Carol bound and gagged in one of the storage rooms. Upon freeing her (to her chagrin), one of the librarians entered the room and immediately recognized Seles as the girl that was banned from the library for entering the forbidden room. In the panic, Carol whispered to Seles to fight her and pretend she was a thief she was following. Seles and friends fought and "arrested" her, leading to the librarian to be impressed and lift Seles' ban from the library, and allowed Seles to leave with a bound and gagged Carol. Outside the library, they untied Carol and Evelyn came to pick her at the city gate. She thanked Seles for helping her and left with Carol.

Sometime later, Carol and Evelyn went to the Chroma Research Center to investigate anything they could about Chroma and Exceeds. However, due to the Research Center being forbidden to non-researchers, they were turned away. In response, they decided to storm the building, beating up the men and tying up all the women inside the main building.

Upon hearing of a "hostage situation" in the Research Center, Seles and her friends arrived to solve the situation, and were confused to see Carol and Evelyn contemplating giant crystals in the main hall. Seles attempted to persuade them to just come with them but Evelyn refused and a fight ensued. After a hard fight, Carol and Evelyn were defeated and taken to the Research Center's prison cells where Seles attempted to interrogate them. Carol didn't revealed anything of importance and even flirted with Seles and enjoyed herself but Evelyn admitted that both of them were on a secret mission to investigate the situation in the region. However, before Evelyn could reveal anything else, Carol escaped her binds and used a smoke bomb to escape with Evelyn but not before leaving a note for Seles saying that she wanted to meet again.

Gameplay[]

Carol's defining attribute is her speed. She will almost always act first and is thus usually the best character for healing other characters before they can be captured, though Suki can be faster with the Bikini and Ring of Agility equipped. She gains the ability to improve the party's speed as well using the Mass Haste spell. Her defenses, however, are not great, and her basic attacks initially leave something to be desired.

Offensively, in the early game, she is the host of the Poison Edge ability and the only party member to use it. Given the effectiveness of the Poisoned status against high HP enemies, she can make or break boss fights. Later, she receives the Quick Claws ability, which can deal surprisingly high damage, and as one of the two dagger-using characters in the party, her offense can be upgraded to a respectable level through the use of a Steel Dagger.

Trivia[]

  • Carol is by far the most popular character in the game due to her personality and enthusiasm over binding and gagging girls and being bound and gagged.
  • During mission 3, Carol mentions the term "cosplay" upon seeing Evelyn's clothes.
